- Tayi Sadhana Yoga

Tayi Sadhana Yoga is a holistic, natural system of yoga rooted in the ancient tradition of Raja Yoga. Developed by Yogacharya Hemanth Kumar Venkataram, born and raised in Mysuru, the birthplace of Raja Yoga and Ashtanga Yoga, it integrates classical wisdom with modern understanding to meet the needs of contemporary life.

The name combines two profound concepts:

  • Tayi (ತಾಯಿ) – In Kannada, meaning Mother, symbolizing the nurturing, protective, and healing energy of the universe.
  • Sadhana (साधना) – Sanskrit for spiritual practice or disciplined effort, guiding the practitioner toward higher goals.

Together, Tayi Sadhana Yoga is the repeated, conscious practice guided by the energy of the Mother, leading to complete inner health, boundless vitality, longevity, and preparation for deep meditation and spiritual realization.

Core Philosophy

Tayi Sadhana Yoga emphasizes achieving one pose, one type of breath, and one point of concentration. This approach allows practitioners to remain comfortably in a posture for extended periods while controlling the breath and senses, ultimately leading to Samadhi, the state of profound meditation and inner stillness.

The practice transcends the ego, breaking the restraints of mind and body. By mastering correct postures and meticulous breath control, practitioners awaken their innate life energy (prana) — often depleted by stress, poor diet, and inactivity in modern life. Historically, humans lived longer and healthier lives by naturally conserving and nurturing this energy.

Tayi Sadhana Yoga acts as a “recharging station” for body and mind, promoting health, longevity, and vitality. It functions as a scientific, natural system for disease prevention, recovery, and overall wellness.

Structure of the System

1. Key Principles

  • Natural Energy: Every human is born with vital energy, which is consumed by environmental, emotional, or behavioral factors. Tayi Sadhana Yoga restores this energy through conscious, structured practice. The system follows a progressive, three-tiered structure based on the natural development of life:
    1. 12 Months – 12 Joints: The first stage focuses on the joints, gradually activating and strengthening all 12 major joints throughout the year to support physical mobility and endurance.
    2. 12 Months – 12 Organs: The second stage brings energy and balance to 12 key internal organs, restoring vitality and optimizing bodily functions.
    3. Spinal Alignment: The final stage focuses on the natural curvature of the spinal column, ensuring the body maintains its natural structural integrity, allowing energy to flow freely and supporting overall health.

  • Wisdom and Excellence: Specialized breath techniques in asanas, adjusted according to the month and level, cultivate conscious breath mastery, sensory withdrawal, and heightened awareness.
  • Universal Health: The system prevents disease, increases vitality, and supports longevity through safe, graded practices.

2. Core Practice: Meditation, Asana, and Breath

Tayi Sadhana Yoga develops physical mastery, breath control, and meditation, organized in three progressive levels:

  • Level 1: Activates lungs, restores joint function, and improves circulation.
  • Level 2: Strengthens the spine, enhances flexibility, and expands breath capacity.
  • Level 3: Mastery of asanas and breath for perfect health, mental steadiness, and preparation for Samadhi.

At each stage, practitioners master one pose, one pranayama, and one point of concentration, preparing for deep meditation and full physical and mental health.

3. Special Practices

  • Sadhana Enjoy Upside Down: Balances the nervous system, relaxes the mind, and reduces stress, anxiety, and insomnia.
  • Sadhana B-Bends: Maintains spinal health and energy flow through forward, backward, twisting, and extension movements.
  • Sadhana Hip Energy Increase: Activates the pelvis and hip joints, removes coldness, stabilizes the body, and boosts vitality.
